Workshop Retreat on the Greek Island of Koufonisi

Embodied Presence: Authentic Movement & Michael Chekhov Technique

with Sarah Hickler & Craig Mathers

 June 20 – 27, 2020

Come join us in this sublime island paradise to dive into your senses, imagination, creativity and expressive power.

Authentic Movement is a subtle and powerful improvisational movement practice that explores the creative, psychological and spiritual dimensions of experience through physical expression. Rooted in Carl Jung's concept of active imagination and developed by dance therapist Mary Starks Whitehouse, this practice activates the imagination, senses and expression of body and psyche. Drawing on the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique, we will work with a variety of texts and psychophysical explorations that focus on imagination, sending/receiving, inner/outer gesture, body centers and atmospheres that deepen embodied expression and communication.

This workshop is appropriate for both the experienced and novice actor/performer, or anyone interested in deepening their experience of embodied communication and presence.

Surrounded by nature, this sanctuary-like setting invites you to experience the serenity of island life. We will be working 4 hours a day in the studio, and living at the gracious Koufinisi Villas in the northeast of the island (http://koufonisivillas.com). Villas have ocean views, and are a short walk to Pori, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Aegean, with cliffs, caves, hiking and other activities nearby. Houses have complete kitchens, and are in proximity to cafes, restaurants and markets. Three meals are provided daily, lovingly prepared by the gourmet vegan chef Esco Koskilaulaja.

Workshop fee: $450.00

Housing (including meals): Double and single room options ranging from $490.00 – $1260.00 for the week.
